Matsuzaki Kuwa Leaf Farm is a cooperative in Matsuzaki, Shizuoka, cultivating mulberry and cherry leaves. By revitalizing abandoned farmland, we create safe, high-quality products like mulberry tea and cherry leaf powder, supporting both community revitalization and healthy living.
Matsuzaki Kuwa Leaf Farm Cooperative was founded in April 2013 by local volunteers as part of a rural revitalization initiative. Starting with 20 ares of abandoned farmland and planting 4,000 mulberry trees, the farm has grown to 155 ares as of 2023.
We chose mulberry because Matsuzaki once thrived as a silk-producing region, and the area’s mild climate makes it ideal for cultivation. In July 2014, the farm became a formal cooperative and successfully commercialized mulberry leaf tea.
Matsuzaki is also Japan’s top producer of cherry leaves, accounting for about 70% of the national share. Since 2020, we have been planting Ōshima cherry leaves, widely used in traditional Japanese sweets like sakuramochi and modern desserts. We are also developing cherry leaf powder products for confectionery and beverages.
